Learning objectives :
- Understanding how AI is transforming businesses in practical terms through three key mechanisms
- Assess the opportunities and threats posed by AI across every aspect of the business value chain
- Identify ways to integrate AI to optimize processes or diversify offerings
Course :
Session 1: How AI Impacts Businesses
AI isn’t just for tech companies. It is transforming every industry, to varying degrees and in different ways. This session provides participants with a simple framework for understanding how AI impacts businesses, illustrated by real-world examples across various industries.
Example of a tool : The 3 mechanisms of AI impact (Optimization: improving processes, productivity, and operational efficiency, e.g., code, data analysis, AI assistants / Creation: generating content, designs, and code at high speed / Personalization: tailoring experiences and recommendations in real time for each user).
Case Study : Analyze concrete examples of companies from various industries to see how each of the three mechanisms creates value, then identify which one is most relevant to your own context.
Session 2: Analyzing the Impact of AI on Your Value Chain
Understanding AI in general is just the starting point. The real challenge is to assess how it specifically impacts your business by identifying which parts of the value chain present the greatest opportunities and threats.
Example of a tool : The "value chain" matrix (Research: how AI can accelerate the development of new products and services / Production: how AI helps optimize processes and reduce costs / Distribution: how AI helps personalize the customer experience and increase sales / for each dimension: identify concrete opportunities and competitive threats).
Case Study : Apply the matrix to your own industry or business, assess the level of impact AI has on each dimension of the value chain, and identify the two or three most significant challenges for your organization.
Session 3: Identifying Ways to Integrate AI
Once opportunities have been identified, a choice must be made: should we use them to improve what we’re already doing, or to reinvent ourselves? The Dual Transformation framework structures this strategic choice and helps participants move from analysis to concrete courses of action.
Example of a tool : The Dual Transformation framework applied to AI (Transformation A: Optimizing the “How”—using AI to improve operational efficiency in existing processes / Transformation B: Challenging the “What”—using AI to create new products, services, or business models / The key: identifying which approach your organization should prioritize, and why both can coexist without cannibalizing each other).
Case Study : Based on the opportunities identified in Step 2, develop strategies for integrating AI into your organization, distinguishing between those that fall under optimization (A) and those that fall under diversification (B), and prioritize the most realistic and high-impact strategies.
