Meet Lois Sun

A bilingual (Mandarin and English) executive and team coach, leadership and organizational effectiveness consultant, and certified trainer/facilitator, Lois Sun has been coaching leaders and teams around the world for over ten years. Based in Shanghai, she was ranked among the city's top 15 coaches by Influence Digest+ Media.

Can you tell us more about your background?

Before founding Chosen Consulting, I spent almost 20 years in HR leadership roles within Fortune 500 companies such as ExxonMobil and Goodyear. At ExxonMobil, as a Global HR Business Partner and M&A Project Leader, I led APAC-wide talent strategy and major organizational transformations. At Goodyear Asia Pacific, I managed M&A integration projects and designed the first virtual rollout of the Global Manufacturing Leadership Program.

These experiences gave me a strong foundation in people management, talent development, change management, and leadership development, all of which now shape my approach as a trainer and coach.

What are your areas of expertise?

I cover a wide range of leadership topics including modern leadership, leader as a coach, leading through adversity and resilience, change management, cross-cultural management, team effectiveness, inclusive leadership, and employee development and engagement.

How and why did you decide to work with NUMA?

I first heard about NUMA from a friend and chose to collaborate with them because of their distinctive, practical approach to learning. NUMA’s programs are case-based, short-format and highly actionable, delivered by experienced practitioners and co-designed with clients to reflect participants’ day-to-day realities.

They combine blended delivery (remote + face-to-face), small-group workshops, and an explicit focus on driving behavioural change rather than just transferring knowledge — an approach that aligns with my commitment to measurable, workplace-applied learning.

How do you integrate your professional experience to engage participants?

With 20 years of HR leadership, consulting and coaching experience, I bring deep insight into organisational and leadership challenges and practical solutions.

I use real examples and case studies to demonstrate how concepts apply in practice, and I align each programme with the client’s strategy so participants understand not only what to do and how to do it, but why it matters.

What's the key to successful training?

My workshops are highly interactive and experiential, blending group discussions, case simulations, and peer coaching to ensure immediate application. I strive to create a safe and open environment where participants engage deeply and leave with practical tools and renewed confidence.

Clients often highlight my ability to seamlessly integrate a coaching mindset into training, and my talent for creating sustainable behavioral change that sticks long after the session ends.

Can you share with us a technique or method that you use regularly in your training courses?

I bring a strengths-based and systemic perspective, combined with a genuine curiosity for people and how they grow. My style is both compassionate and challenging: I hold leaders accountable to stretch goals while helping them build self-awareness, resilience, and influence within their organizations.

One method I frequently use in my sessions is the Leader-as-Coach framework. Through hands-on exercises, peer coaching, and guided reflection, participants experience firsthand that leadership isn’t about having all the answers, it’s about asking the right questions, encouraging autonomy, and empowering others to grow. This approach not only strengthens individual confidence but also cultivates teams that are more cohesive, resilient, and self-driven.
